What Have We Got to Live For

As you may have noticed, Australian comedy – on television at least – is keeping its head down. Over on Ten, they’ve got things sorted. Having two long running panel-slash-clip shows that have been basically unchanged for the last five years is great. It’s also a bit of a holding pattern. Still no word on whether Ten is bringing back that local version of Ghosts! Oh the irony of a show about the undead ending up just plain dead.

Yeah, Colin From Accounts is still ticking away, and has maybe possibly improved a little? And all of season two of Get Krack!n turned up last week on YouTube, if you’d like to step back in time to a period where the ABC would air that kind of thing, if only by mistake.

Speaking of the ABC, they seem to be going though one of their increasingly regular periods where they step back from the idea of Australian comedy all together. At the moment, Spicks and Specks is it. Yes, even Gruen has finally buggered off, not that you could call that comedy these days. And calling Spicks and Specks comedy is a bit of a stretch at the best of times.

That’s not to say they’ve given up entirely. Okay, well, considering our next example is season three of Austin, maybe they have. And don’t forget Separated at Birth, because we had. Does the ABC regret greenlighting a relationship comedy starring Urzila Carlson and Nazeem Hussain? We’ll soon find out!

So is that it for 2026? We can all pack up and go home until The Yearly returns to stink up the place? Oh ho ho ho no. The ABC promised us this in 2026 and we’re going to hold them to it:
