Paramount / 10 Upfronts 2027: When You’re on a Good Thing

Paramount / 10 announced their slate for 2027 earlier this week and yeah, enjoy it while it lasts. Rumours upon rumours keep a’swirling about the future of Paramount’s Australian assets now that head office has all their shiny new Warner Brothers toys to play with. Do we think any new owners will do anything more than sack everyone and turn the place into a parking lot? Yeah, nah. We’re not all that confident we’ll even get half the stuff they’re currently promising and it’s all shows already in production.

Returning Comedy On 10

Have You Been Paying Attention?

Tom Gleisner, Ed Kavalee and Gold Logie winner Sam Pang are back to quiz the week that was.

Tom Gleisner said: “We are so excited to be returning in 2027 for what I believe will be our 15th series. That makes us one of the 10 Network’s longest-running shows, behind Neighbours (now axed) and Mass For You At Home (now re-booted as Priest’s Behaving Badly).”

The Cheap Seats

Melanie Bracewell and Tim McDonald prove the view is always best from the cheap seats.

Melanie Bracewell said: “Every year we wait anxiously for the ‘we’ve decided to replace you with AI’ email. Thrilled to confirm 2027 is not that year! So excited to return to The Cheap Seats for 2027! Tell your friends! Unless they work for the ATO. I said I came to Australia for a holiday. “

Tim McDonald said: “Thrilled to come back for another year! I knew as soon as I got the email – ‘Your Love Island application has been unsuccessful’. 2027 will be a massive year of news – the Women’s World Cup, the Ashes and the French Presidential Election. I can’t wait for the traditional democracy croquembouche.”

Sam Pang Tonight

The Gold Logie winner has recently returned for season three, with more celebrity interviews, sketches and the Wheel Of Segments.

Sam Pang stated: “I’m thrilled to be back for season three of Sam Pang Tonight. The network wanted to replace me, but the name of the show got in the way. I am however confident this third instalment will go down as everyone’s favourite, just like The Godfather Part III.”

Shaun Micallef’s Parents’ Evening

Shaun and his son Gabe host the cross-generational game show where well-known Aussies team up with a parent or child.

Gearing up for another season, host Shaun Micallef said: “We took Parents’ Evening out for a run around the block in 2026, and nothing fell off. We’re looking forward to entering it in the Formula 1 competition that is the 2027 programming year. Gabe and I are proud to be driving for the Channel 10 team and will do our best not to sideswipe Sam Pang Tonight or run Big Brother off the road and into a barrier.”

Taskmaster Australia

In season six, Charlie Pickering, Frankie McNair, Shane Jacobson, Tom Walker and Urzila Carlson take on Tom Gleeson and ‘Lesser Tom’ Cashman.

On the joys of making his fellow comedians suffer, Tom Gleeson declared: “Part of my job as the Taskmaster is that I have to pay out the contestants. The contestants are comedians, so often they are good friends of mine. Therefore, I have to pay out my friends. BEST JOB EVER!”

There’s also – or so we’ve read – going to be an Inspired Unemployed sketch show on Paramount+ at some stage over the next year. Guess they’ve finally run out of people willing to stand around for free while they act like dickheads.

Sure, there’s absolutely nothing new here, which is always disappointing. And some of the things we thought might be back didn’t get a mention – RIP the Australian version of Ghosts. But otherwise, this is a strong lineup that we’re going to enjoy for as long as we possibly can (so 2028? – ed).

Somewhat amazingly, none of these shows seem to be running out of steam – well, Parent’s Evening has only had four episodes go to air so far, and we suspect the 2027 run might just be whatever’s left over from this year’s filming. But otherwise 10 seems to have stumbled onto the magic formula, which is…

*checks notes*

“hire funny people and let them be funny”.

Geez, hope the other networks don’t figure that one out.
