I’d say we ditch the Hairstyle award (Wil Anderson’s had enough exposure!) and maybe Worst Export. A timely new category might be Stupidest Media Beat-Up, or something along those lines.
There was a suggestion to ditch “worst new comedy” as there’s been almost no new comedy this year, but I don’t know… part of me thinks there’d be no better indication as to how the commercial networks see comedy than to have “old Hey Hey It’s Saturdays” win that category.
Worst Export can probably go, just because nothing’s been exported yet (TAYG will be the winner in 2010, no doubt). We might not need all the panel show categories either, as that fad seems to have faded finally.
And yeah, the hairstyle fad seems to have fizzled out too (mostly because there’s no-one new coming through… still, Josh Thomas is a prime contender there). Wil Anderson’s new book needs a solid kicking tho’.
There are plenty of New Comedies this year, Race Relations, TBYG, Lawrence Leung and many more. And technically The Librarians series 2 is new.
A rather good suggestion by e-mail:
BLANDEST COMEDY – For all the forgettable comedy not bad enough to get nominated in other categories and not good enough to be watchable.
“Most Overdue DVD release” is my latest thought. Which we give automatically to The Games series 2.
Of course. Though that DVD of Graham Kennedy’s Coast to Coast was pretty overdue too, mind you.
Blandest Comedy is probably a goer, but personally bland pretty much equals bad – “forgettable” is a pretty dismissive insult, after all.
There should be both a category for crappiest media beat up and for crappiest management decision – one usually but not always follows the other, so it’s an important distinction.
